Snow Birds

Preston King, one of the Fall Line Painters, issued a challenge today.  Stay inside but paint a view out of one of your windows.  It is so icy and cold here!  The ground is blanketed in what looks like snow, but it is a hard layer of sleet and ice.  We have been steadily feeding the birds today.  These goldfinches in their rather drab winter plumage covered the table on the deck, so it was easy to see them up close through the french doors.  I was tempted to paint the cardinals, but this little constantly moving mass was so intriguing, even though they were less striking.

Pink Perch

Can you tell that I'm wishing for warmer weather? This lovely pink stucco overlooks the beach on St. Simons Island, Georgia. My sister and I had the pleasure of spending four days just down the street and I enjoyed the morning walks past this home. Apparently one of the resident magpies or grackles thought this was a nice perch to enjoy the views, too.

Geese in the Yard

Time just flew by as I took the palette knife to butter and scrape in the background on this one, then I scumbled and brushed in layers of paint. It has a fantastic warm glow about it and nice depth. I love the impressionistic feel to it. Viewed up close, every square inch of it is interesting, so I'll share some details with you. Keep in mind that the whole painting is only 8"x10", so these details are actually zoomed for you to enjoy.
