"Beach Ride"

The photo reference of this boy was sent in from Cheri Robbins, an artist and a member of the McIntosh Art Association.  I'm sure it was taken at nearby Jekyll Island State Park because I recognized the shoreline and background near the pier from several other photos.  This painting, along with 40 others, are in a summer-long show and sale at Darien's Old Jail Art Center & Museum through September.

Pink Perch

Can you tell that I'm wishing for warmer weather? This lovely pink stucco overlooks the beach on St. Simons Island, Georgia. My sister and I had the pleasure of spending four days just down the street and I enjoyed the morning walks past this home. Apparently one of the resident magpies or grackles thought this was a nice perch to enjoy the views, too.

It was not until after I had taken the photo of these gulls that I noticed what wonderful cloud reflections were in the truck window. I hated to run these guys away but, alas, the truck was mine and it was a really chilly day. I'd been out on the pier taking pictures and the thought of moseying on down to the nearest coffee house sounded really good... so SHOO!!!

These seagulls had parked in the space next to my car. I think that they must have chosen the parking lot instead of the beach to help soak up some of the warmth radiating from the asphalt, as the reference photo was taken on the same chilly winter day that you saw in yesterday's beach painting. I can't help but chuckle when I see these birds with one leg tucked underneath because of my youngest nephew's comment to my sister. . ." Look, Mimi! Chicken on a stick!"
