"Circle of Life"

Arts Clayton in Jonesboro, GA is having a reception for it's "Circle of Life" show this Friday evening, Nov.5th, 5:30-7:30.   My offerings for this theme include "Georgia Red", a 30"x40" depiction of a family of foxes; "Day One", an 11"x14" foal on the day of her birth; "Sabbath Morning", a 24"x24" painting of a bromeliad and stick figure in the window that symbolizes the resurrection of Christ.  I hope you can join us for the festivities in their lovely gallery or catch the show before it comes down on Dec.18th.
In conjunction will be another show called "Vessels", which I think is an appropriate pairing to the 2-D show.

Feathers for Supper

"Feathers for Supper"
12" x 26" acrylic on blue shalimar
...a 'Spirit in Stone'

This is a depiction of a bluebird narrowly missing being supper for a red fox.  The remarkable reliefs in this stone include the fox's tail and hind quarters and the bird's upper wing, head and beak... not to mention the overall shape of the stone to get both subjects in perspective to tell a story.

Always Wary - companion stone to Georgia Red

"Always Wary"...SOLD
10.5"x21"x1.75" acrylic on blue shalimar stone
included with painting

First I painted "Always Wary", a piece in my 'Spirit in Stone' series. These stones are painted exactly as they are found in nature... no chipping or shaping of any kind. I incorporate the shape and texture of the stone into the painted image. Then I got the idea to make a companion painting to go with the stone. "Georgia Red" is a large painting of three red fox kits with their parents. Mama fox, the same one depicted in the stone, is now trying to catch a little nap outside the den while Papa takes over guard duty. The name of this painting is as much a reference to the red clay Georgia soil as it is reference to the species of fox. The deep woods scene with bright filtered light is very much like the woods behind my house where both red and gray foxes roam.
